A third set of preliminary hearings into Taihape area land claims was held at Rātā Marae on Monday, 12 September 2016 and Whakauae was there in support.

As part of our commitment to staying abreast of recent research, issues of concern to Māori, and understanding the impacts on Māori health, our Business Manager attended the STIR Symposium on 13 September 2016.

On Friday the 2^nd of September, members of Whakauae participated in a community planting day on the banks of the Pourewa Stream at Rātā. The planting day officially recognised the launch of the Ngā Puna Rau Rangitīkei Project.

Whakauae is pleased to announce the results of the Pae Tawhiti Scholarship Awards for Masters and PhD students for the 2016 academic year. 

Researchers of Whakauae accompanied by two Te Puawai o te Ahi Kaa kaimahi recently attended ANZEA's 2016 conference in Wellington 18 - 21 July 2016. The theme was 'Next generation evaluation: Shaping better futures in Aotearoa New Zealand' which embraced a changing evaluation landscape in a diverse and pluralist Aotearoa, New Zealand. 

In July 2016 we regretfully accepted Richard Steedman's notice of resignation from the Whakauae Board. Richard has been an invaluable asset for Whakauae bringing a wealth of iwi knowledge and additional skills and knowledge in the areas of financial oversight and strategic iwi development. 

Over recent months, the Team at Whakauae has been putting in some time to learn Ngāti Hauiti waiata and pātere under the guidance of Sue Kavanagh. 

We acknowledge the years of contribution and dedication that Richard Steedman has provided to Whakauae as he takes leave as a Board Director.

Whakauae were fortunate to host two visiting Manitoban students, both studying their Masters in Development Practice in Indigenous Development at the University of Winnipeg.

Whakauae celebrated their ten year anniversary at the Hui ā Iwi held at Rata Marae on Sunday 26^th June 2016.  To commemorate this achievement Whakauae shared a brochure that portrays a number of milestones that occurred over this period and the past Director Dr Heather Gifford spoke about the highlights of the journey. 

The Board Chair Peter Fraser and the Research Centre Director Dr Amohia Boulton are delighted to share with you our Annual Report for 2015.

Amohia and Heather joined with friends, family members and colleagues to tautoko Professor Denise Wilson at her Inaugural Professorial Address at Auckland University of Technology (AUT) on the 31^st May.  Denise is from Ngāti Tahinga and the Director of Taupua Waiora the Centre for Māori Health Research at AUT. 

The Board Chair of Whakauae Research Services Ltd, Mr Peter Fraser, announced a change in leadership for the health research centre. Dr Heather Gifford who established Whakauae in 2005 under the auspices of Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Hauiti, has stepped down from her role as Centre Director, paving the way for Dr Amohia Boulton to take over the day to day management of the organisation.

The latest HRC Pānui reports on the findings of Glenis Mark;s Postdoctoral research regarding Māori patients; perspectives on health, their experiences of rongoā Māori (traditional Māori medicine) and/ or primary health services as well as their views on greater integration of the two systems of care. 

Members of ASPIRE2025 have just released the latest research report aimed at informing and stimulating debate about policy options that might help New Zealand become a smokefree nation by 2025.

Whakauae Research held the first research symposium for 2016 at Community House in Whanganui, on 18 March 2016. These events showcase Māori health research of relevance to local communities.

Whakauae staff members Dr Amohia Boulton, Gill Potaka-Osborne, Rachel Brown, Ngareta Patea and sub-contractor Kiri Parata have recently returned from an invigorating four days at the Healing Our Spirit Worldwide 2015 Conference. 

During December 2015, Whakauae facilitated Pae Tawhiti, a strategic planning day, with Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Hauiti.

The final Iwi Chairs' Forum for the year was held in early December in Arahura.

Richard Steedman invites Professor Aimée Craft, Director of Research at the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation at the University of Manitobato visit the tribal lands of Moawhango.

In late December 2015, Whakauae managers held a rural retreat near Otaki.  The purpose of the retreat was to reflect on 2015 organisational activity and to plan for 2016.

Vanessa (Vee) Tait and Chyloe Healy, from Canada’s First Nations Health and Social Secretariat, visited our Whakauae offices as part of their North Island tour following the Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga International Indigenous Research Conference. During their visit, discussions focused on shared Indigenous challenges, including political impacts on health services, experiences during COVID-19, and the phenomenon of “Pretendians.” Despite the weather preventing an outing on the awa, the visitors enjoyed warm hospitality, and Whakauae looks forward to strengthening partnerships with our Canadian colleagues

Te Kupenga o MAI Hui-a-Tau 2024 brought together over 120 Māori and Indigenous PhD candidates, including three members of our Whakauae Research Services whānau, to share their research and celebrate achievements at Waipapa Marae, University of Auckland. The event fostered connections, showcased diverse research, and inspired participants.
