Kia whakarongo ake au ki te tangi a te kōkō
Koekoe e, koekoe e
He korokoro tūī nā Te Toi-o-ngā-rangi
Tuia i runga, tuia i raro
Whiria ki te rangi, whiria ki te whenua, whiria ki te tangata
As a mokopuna of Ngāti Hauiti, I was immensely proud to join Whakauae in the summer of 2023 as a research and tikanga assistant.
From 2024 to 2026, I was fortunate to receive support from Whakauae for my postgraduate studies in a Master of Indigenous Studies at Te Herenga Waka, Victoria University of Wellington. My final dissertation examines a series of Waka Hoe wānanga of Ngāti Hauiti and the connections to the health and wellbeing of our whānau, hapū, and iwi.
Through my master's work, by leading my own research project, and my experiences working alongside the Whakauae whānau, I have developed research skills that will benefit both current and future research projects at Whakauae.
During my time at Whakauae, I have recognised the importance of Kaupapa Māori research in promoting health equity and enhancing health and wellbeing outcomes for our whānau, and I look forward to continuing this crucial work.
