Te Tūranga | The role

Our Business Manager is an integral part of our continued growth as an independent research organisation.  They lead our support functions and our work undertaking research to effect change.

Working closely with the Research Centre Director, you will come to understand our (complex) programme of research and capability building funding streams. The role manages our Research Office from pre-funding to establishment stage, and through to reporting and deliverable oversight.  At a strategic level, you’ll collaborate with the Director and our highly engaged Board to develop and deliver our strategic and operational activities.

There is a strong financial component to this role, specifically budgeting, forecasting, reporting and audit.  Your skills, knowledge and experience will adapt to an academic research environment while keeping a common-sense approach that works for our organisation.

Day-to-day you will be comfortable working at both strategic and operational levels, while maintaining a solutions focused approach.

Leading a small and engaged team, you will encourage and build their capability, as well as developing strong trusted relationships with our Whakauae whānau.

You will have a humble wairua and a deep motivation to contribute to our shared vision. You will be open and willing to work and learn within a strongly values-based, kaupapa-Māori environment, with a caring and engaging leadership style that motivates people to enjoy their mahi and achieve results professionally and personally.

When it comes to experience, along with your depth of financial expertise, you’ll be a strategic thinker (and doer) having successfully supported organisations through growth.  You’ll have a relevant accounting / finance qualification or equivalent experience.  A CA qualification is desirable but not essential.

If you share our kaupapa and want to contribute to meaningful research and change, we would like to kōrero. In case you are thinking “I don’t know Te Reo” or “I am not confident with tikanga Māori”, that’s OK.  What is important to us is your openness to learn, and your willingness to share, be inclusive and respectful.
